Gold Jewelry and Saltwater – What You Should Consider at the Beach
Basically, everyone wants to take their beloved jewelry on vacation and wear it everywhere. Since saltwater, salt, and sand can negatively affect jewelry, we recommend not wearing it at the beach and taking care when bringing it along.
Gold is a very soft material, so it can easily be scratched. Saltwater itself does not harm pure gold, as it is acid-resistant. However, jewelry is typically never made of pure gold, as alloys such as copper or silver are needed to create it. These, in turn, are sensitive to salt and, therefore, also to seawater, and can be compromised.
Here are our care tips if you still wish to wear your gold jewelry at the beach:
- soak in some dish soap for about 15 minutes and then rinse with clean water
- wipe with a cloth suitable for gold jewelry; if that's not available, use a lint-free cloth.
