FAQ – BONES & BUDDHAS

The base metal should be a precious metal. This is the only way to avoid unexpected reactions or discolouration on the skin.

Unfortunately, there are still many online shops that write gold-plated but do not define the material more precisely. Very often this is a reference to cheap costume jewellery. This is how enormous price differences come about - so pay close attention to this! !

Gold and silver are subject to compulsory labelling, both in Germany and internationally. For gold it is 333, 585, 750, 999 or 8, 14, 18 or 24 carat. For silver, it is mainly 925, 850 or 800. The higher the number, the greater the gold or silver content.

We mainly use 925 sterling silver (the most expensive sub-metal among precious metals), with the exception of a few stainless steel pieces.

For individual designs we need a stronger base and use stainless steel for this, as stainless steel is much stronger than sterling silver.  

 All our 925 silver jewelry is rhodium plated and therefore lasts a long time. The extra layer of rhodium gives the jewelry an extraordinary silver-white shine. Rhodium is food-safe, extremely inert and the rarest and most valuable precious metal in the world - far above silver and gold.

For gold plating, we use 18carat plating as we love a rich yellow tone. For rose gold, we also use18 carat gold and a higher percentage of copper.
The higher the karat number, the purer the gold - but purer does not always mean better. 24 carat gold is exceptionally soft, our 18 carat gold is still very valuable but lasts much longer.
All our jewelry is nickel-free and allergy-friendly.

The difference lies in a real gold coating in a galvanic process and simple color coatings: many inexpensive pieces of jewelry made of 925 sterling silver, stainless steel and brass are often only coated with a layer of color. This wears off much faster than if the piece of jewelry was coated with real gold.

We always use a real gold coating in an electroplating process with a good coating thickness of at least 1 micron.

Our electroplated coatings, are a qualitative advantage and last a very long time and are initially waterproof. However, at some point, any gold plating will wear off - depending on stress and friction. Also, the pH of the skin can affect the durability of the gold plating.
No piece of jewelry is 100 per cent water resistant, even when advertised as such.

With a high gold plating, as it is in our case, it is initially not tragic to wear the jewelry while exercising, at the beach or in the shower- however, this will cause the plating to come off more quickly than if you take the jewelry off during these activities.

925 sterling silver, for example, can easily turn yellow to black (oxidise) due to the hydrogen sulphide in the air, especially when it is not in use. This can be avoided by wearing it frequently and cleaning it regularly with a polishing cloth.

General care tips:

• Avoid contact with water if possible. Salt water and chlorine are also harmful.
• Take jewelry off when sleeping, exercising and sweating, avoid direct contact with cosmetics (lotion, sun cream, hair spray and perfume).
• Keep jewelry dry and protected from light in a casket.
• SPack them separately to avoid scratches.
• Clean the jewelry again and again, for example with care cloths, a jewelry bath or an ultrasonic bath.

To determine your correct bracelet size, do the following:

Measure your wrist below the wrist bone (where you would normally wear your bracelet) snugly with a tape measure or strip of paper.

To find your optimal bracelet size now, add to your measured circumference

- plus 1 cm if you want your bracelet snug
- plus 2 cm if you prefer to wear your bracelet a little looser

Average size for women is: M Medium 17.50 cm
Average size for men is: L Large 19.00 cm

The exchange of bracelets is possible.
You have 14 calendar days (starting from the day you received the item) to exchange the bracelet(s).
For exchange, we only accept BONES & BUDDHAS bracelets that come with the original charms in unused condition and are in the original packaging.  
  The fastest way to make the exchange is to return the bracelet you currently have. Once it arrives here, we will issue you a full refund.
In the meantime, you can buy the bracelet you like.

For a refund, we only accept BONES & BUDDHAS bracelets that come with the original tags in unused condition and are in their original packaging.  
Once we receive the shipment, we will issue you a full refund.   Your refund will be refunded via the same payment method you used to make the purchase.
